This chia chocolate mousse, not only is delicious but its a dessert that’s full of skin supportive nutrients! Hello, welcome back to another episode of bloody good recipes for bloody good skin. A series where I teach you that supporting your skin is an inside job. Chia seeds are a rich source of omega 3 fatty acids, namely α-linolenic acid and although only about ~3-5% of the omega 3 is converted to the active constituents EPA and DHA they are a good source of dietary fibre, plant protein, vitamin E, B3 and polyphenolic antioxidants (1, 2).
One particular study isolated the smaller peptides extracted from chia seeds found that the peptides inhibited age related enzymes that degrade collagen, elastin & hyaluronic acid in our skin (3)! Now this was an in vitro model so I cannot say whether the research would stand up in a human design however it is still interesting preliminary research and eating chia seeds is a risk I’m willing to take! It’s an affordable and healthy ingredient that should absolutely be included in your diet for so many reasons!
